Nottingham Forest were recently linked with Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos. Given a change of manager at the Portuguese club, a loan deal looks unlikely during January.

The player is needed at Benfica ahead of a new manager being appointed. Jorge Jesus was sacked last week and he was considering letting Ramos out on loan.

Forest do appear to be shopping in the right place though. Back in August, Bruno Lage was keen to take the youngster to Wolves and saw a £25 million bid rejected!

Record claimed that Ramos was high on Wolves’ list of targets. Benfica, however, didn’t want to cash in on a player they believe can become a real star.

Ramos has been in and around the squad this season. He’s made 23 appearances for the club, scoring once and claiming three assists.

Steve Cooper has been on the lookout for strikers. He recently added Keinan Davis from Aston Villa and already has Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor to choose from.

Ramos, Martin Satriano and Marcus Forss were three other options under consideration by the club. The trio will likely remain long-term targets for Forest.

The 20-year-old has made quite an impact on the international stage. In 13 games for the Portugal under-21 team, he’s found the net 10 times.

Exciting: Forest will monitor Ramos with intrigue

Benfica have a plethora of talent at the club and Ramos will perhaps have to remain patient. When he does get chances he will hope to take them, given that a loan move now looks unlikely.

Forest should definitely continue to watch the youngster. Wolves don’t get many overseas signings wrong and the fact they bid £25 million tells an exciting story.

This link might not come to fruition for Forest this month. Despite that, it should tell supporters that Dane Murphy is targeting the right areas and finally the club looks to be showing sense with their recruitment plans.
