Nottingham Forest were linked with Leeds defender Cody Drameh earlier this month – but he’s set to move to another Championship club.
Cardiff City have won the race to sign the right-back and, according to The Athletic, a deal is imminent.
Forest viewed Drameh as an alternative to Djed Spence. There was some talk that the player could be recalled by Middlesbrough and that would have left the Reds short.
Now, the Bluebirds have stolen a march and the Leeds youngster will fight to help the club stave off the threat of relegation to League One.
Drameh is highly rated by Leeds. They rarely have a bad youngster at Elland Road and the 20-year-old has been a regular in the under-23 ranks during the past 18 months.
The youngster played the final 21 minutes as Leeds exited the FA Cup at West Ham on Sunday. It was his fifth appearance for the Whites’ senior ranks and Marcelo Bielsa clearly rates him.
Forest have moved to strengthen their own ranks. Richie Laryea has joined from Toronto FC and he looks like a talented addition to the squad.
Leeds perhaps want Drameh to play regular football. With Forest now keeping Spence until the end of the season, those chances were slim at the City Ground.
Strategy: Drameh link signals positive Forest tactic
Perhaps he wasn’t the right player at this moment in time but a change in strategy is positive. It’s nice to think that Forest have domestic youngsters on their radar, as opposed to players at the opposite end of their careers.
Drameh would have been a decent addition. He is perhaps similar to Spence in the sense that he comes into his own when it comes to getting forward down the right.

On loan, however, signing him wouldn’t have made sense right now. He would have been a backup option and that would have hardly delighted Leeds.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on at Cardiff. If he does well, perhaps Forest will keep him on the radar ahead of next season.
