Reputable journalist and Nottingham Forest supporter Dan Taylor believes that Brennan Johnson will stay at the club until the summer. Yesterday, some news emerged that Brentford were preparing a club-record bid for the 20-year-old before the end of the month.

Johnson has been in fine form during 2021/22. He has featured in every single Championship game for the Reds, scoring five goals and claiming four assists.

Since Steve Cooper arrived, he’s really kicked on. The Reds’ head coach has given him a free role in the final third and he’s thrived under such responsibility.

Brentford’s interest is a worry. The Bees are going pretty well in their maiden Premier League campaign and they should avoid relegation this season.

Despite breaking the story that a bid from Brentford is imminent; Taylor doesn’t believe that Forest will consider doing business before the end of the 2021/22 campaign, and Tweeted:

This would certainly be a positive for Forest. They are currently just five points off a play-off place and losing a key player would represent a huge blow to those aspirations.

Cooper has said several times that he won’t welcome a sale. He even said last month that he’ll be turning his phone off!

Integral: Forest have to keep Johnson

Given the player’s contract situation, the club are in a bit of a difficult situation. Johnson will have just one year remaining on his deal at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

With that in mind, if Forest are offered £18 million for Johnson, it could prove tricky to turn it down; especially if there are significant add-ons included in the deal.

For now, Forest should resist. He’s played in every game for the Reds this season and losing him now could upset the balance of the squad considerably.
