Gary Brazil has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson after his goalscoring heroics during Saturday’s 2-1 win against Derby County.

The Reds were brilliant during a dominant second 45 which saw Johnson fire home the second after Lewis Grabban had opened the scoring.

Tom Lawrence pulled a late penalty back for the Rams. It was Forest who once again ensured East Midlands bragging rights, however, with Derby handed a setback in their relegation fight.

Johnson has been a standout performer for Forest this season. He’s featured in every single game for the Reds and Saturday was his sixth goal of the campaign.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move away from the City Ground. Brentford are heavily fancied to sign him, although Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham are also keen.

Johnson spent last season on loan at Lincoln. There, he showcased his talent, scoring 13 goals and registering 14 assists for the Imps who reached the play-off final.

The academy graduate has been sensational since returning. He took some time earlier in the season to get up to speed at Championship level but now he’s becoming unplayable.

What has Brazil said about Forest star Johnson?

The talented youngster is destined for the Premier League. More so, Brazil who has helped nurture Johnson over several years thinks his style of play is made for the Premier League.

The gem is needed at Forest right now. His contract situation is not ideal; Johnson will be out of contract in the summer of 2023 and could walk away for very little in the way of compensation.

That leaves Forest with a decision to make. With the Reds on the cusp of the Championship play-offs, however, they won’t want anyone to leave during January.

Brazil has suggested as much. For now, the Premier League might have to wait for Forest star Johnson.
