Nottingham Forest were keen to strike a deal for Josh Maja during the summer. Dane Murphy was keen to add the striker to the City Ground ranks but the club pulled out of a deal at the eleventh hour.
Now, according to Football League Zone, the talented youngster could be in talks with an unnamed EFL club regarding a January move.
Maja has fallen down the pecking order at Bordeaux. He has struggled for game time since recovering from a back injury earlier in the campaign.
The 23-year-old has made just four appearances during 2021/22. He has managed just seven minutes of action in Ligue 1 and clearly, regular football is required.
Maja was seemingly a popular transfer link among Forest fans. Plenty voiced their pleasure at his potential arrival but the move never transpired.
The youngster desperately needs to rediscover some confidence. He has made 52 appearances during his time in France, scoring 12 goals and claiming three assists.
Last season he spent some time on loan with Fulham. He bagged three goals in 15 outings for the Cottagers as they were relegated from the Premier League.
Now, speculation will begin as to which EFL club is trying desperately to land the versatile forward before the deadline on Monday.
Will Forest go back in for Maja?
It has to be said that it seems unlikely. Forest have signed Keinan Davis during the window, whilst Lewis Grabban is on 13 goals for the campaign.
As a result, the Reds are unlikely to sign Maja, especially given that he’ll likely leave Bordeaux in search of regular football.

Forest won’t be in a position to offer that really. The Reds have plenty in attack and Maja will need to play his way into form.
The Reds would have perhaps welcomed the youngster in the summer but now, with Forest on the up, Maja is unlikely to be the right fit.
