Keinan Davis has told Nottinghamshire Live that Matty Cash gave a glowing endorsement of Nottingham Forest ahead of his January transfer.
The 23-year-old signed for Forest once the transfer window opened earlier this month. He has made four appearances and bagged his first Reds goal against Barnsley on Tuesday.
Davis had fallen down the pecking order at Aston Villa. Boss Steven Gerrard had spoken fondly of him but was keen to get him out to play some first-team football.
The 23-year-old looks to be a useful addition to the Forest ranks. His powerful style has seen him be a constant menace to defences and he’s also tidy in possession.
Cash left Forest in 2020. He was tremendous at right-back during the 2019/20 campaign and almost helped the Reds reach the Championship play-offs.
He moved to Aston Villa for £16 million and has grown as a player. He’s become a regular in the Premier League and is now an international for Poland.
Davis has said he spoke with Cash prior to heading to Trentside. He told Nottinghamshire Live: “I talked to him before I signed. He said, ‘Keinan, it’s a massive club’. I already knew that, but he just said, ‘it’s unbelievable’.
“In December, building up to January, I was asking him what it was like and he was just telling me lots of good things about the club.
“He sent me a message on Tuesday night saying, ‘the Forest boys are on fire’. He said ‘well done’ to me and the team.”
Quality: Davis looks the part at Forest
Plenty of supporters were quick to dismiss the signing of Davis when he signed. His goalscoring record at Villa is hardly brilliant but already he’s shown what he can bring to the Forest team.

He is physically strong, works hard for the team and also looks after the ball when he has it. If he can add a few goals to his game then Forest could have landed a really shrewd signing.
Davis should get plenty of chances in the Forest team. The challenge for him is to continue building his fitness up and hopefully, keep earning praise from ex-Reds fan favourite Cash!
