Nottingham Forest will resume contract talks with Brennan Johnson this week, according to The Telegraph. The 20-year-old was linked with a move to Brentford in January and will have just 12 months remaining on his deal in the summer.

Johnson has scored eight goals and claimed six assists during the 2020/21 campaign. He has featured in every single game Forest have played this year and has quickly become a burgeoning young talent.

It does seem as though Johnson will be playing in the Premier League next year. That eventuality looks like whether or not Forest can get themselves promoted during the current campaign.

Talks over a new deal are a positive step in the right direction though. It would allow Forest to retain their valuation on the player who is thought to be valued at £20 million right now.

Johnson has been brilliant under Cooper. He has upped his game considerably and is now playing the best football of his career with plenty more to come.

At 20 there really is no ceiling to Johnson’s potential. At this stage, he looks not only destined to play in the Premier League but a club vying for a place at the top end of it.

Contract: Johnson deal would give Forest a huge lift

Forest fans are naturally concerned regarding the player’s contract. The club will have a big decision to make during the summer if he doesn’t sign one and the clock would be ticking on the Reds getting a substantial transfer fee for him.

As a result, the Reds have to act. On current form, they’d be wise to basically give Johnson whatever he wants given his recent breathtaking performances.

The youngster has put Derby and now Leicester to the sword. He will be integral in Forest’s quest for promotion and these talks could further raise the spirits of the delighted Reds fan base.
