Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson has been named as the Player of the Round for his exploits in Sunday’s 4-1 win over Leicester in the FA Cup.

The 20-year-old scored Forest’s second goal sliding the ball under Danny Ward after some poor work from Daniel Amartey.

He was outstanding throughout the contest and was also named as the Man of the Match inside the ground and by BBC Sport.

Johnson continues to see his stock risk. He was linked with a move to Brentford during January; with Leeds, Everton and Tottenham all thought to be keen too.

In winning the FA Cup Player of the Round accolade he fought off fierce competition.

Boreham Wood goalkeeper Taylor Ashby-Hammond, Crystal Palace midfielder Michael Olise and Tottenham striker Harry Kane were all nominated.

The result came courtesy of a fan poll on Twitter. As a result, the Forest fan base have worked their magic to get Johnson over the line.

The academy graduate has scored eight goals and claimed six assists during 2021/22 and it’s fair to say he’s grown as a player under Steve Cooper.

Johnson stock rises and Forest should be excited

Forest will hope to get their main man tied down to a new deal at some point in the coming months.

That may not be until the summer but either way, the Reds need to preserve their valuation of Johnson for the future.

Brentford saw £18 million rejected for Johnson in January. They have seen four bids denied in total and it’s unlikely they’ll be going away.

In the summer, Forest will be in a tricky position. Johnson will have just a single year remaining on his deal and it’s vital they get something in place.

Johnson is exciting. With that in mind, the Reds simply can’t afford to get anything other than top dollar for him when he’s eventually sold.
