Nottingham Forest saw their game with Bournemouth called off on Friday night and that isn’t good news regarding Brice Samba.

The goalkeeper was sent off last time out against Stoke City and he must serve a three-match suspension.

That was set to see him miss games against the Cherries, Preston and Bristol City next Saturday but now he’s set to miss a massive game.

Forest go to Sheffield United a week on Friday and that game could go a long way to deciding Forest’s fate this season.

Not having Samba available for that is a devastating blow and he’s now set to return for the FA Cup contest against Huddersfield.

The Reds saw the Blades go above them yesterday following their stunning 4-0 win over Swansea City. Paul Heckingbottom has revived the South Yorkshiremen of late and they’re rocketing up the division.

Samba would have been a big player against Sheffield United. Of course, that is perhaps doing an injustice to Ethan Horvath who may well play to his best in the three games he deputises.

Forest’s play-off aspirations hang in the balance. They will probably need a really decent run of form to gatecrash but they are capable of that under Cooper.

Blow: Samba loss could be huge for Forest at Sheffield United

It’s quite remarkable that a team playing so well should be so reliant on their goalkeeper but Samba is an integral member of the team.

Forest will see Horvath stake his claim for a place but the Congolese stopper is known to love a big game.

As a result, Samba will be a huge miss at Sheffield United. He would have been keen to get the three games he misses out of the way quickly and the Bournemouth debacle offers a setback.

Forest facing Sheffield United without their first-choice stopper isn’t ideal. Horvath now needs to step up.
