Crystal Palace have joined the race to sign Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson, according to The Sun.

The Reds could be forced into selling Johnson during the summer, with the player having just a year remaining on his current contract.

Johnson has been a revelation for the Reds this season. He has scored 10 goals and claimed six assists, with the Reds in contention for a play-off place.

Losing Johnson would be a serious blow for the Reds but ultimately his contract situation leaves the club with no real chance.

My Europa League Predictions.

In an ideal world, Forest would get Johnson to sign a new deal to at least help preserve his valuation.

Johnson spent last season on loan in League One with Lincoln City and proved his worth with 13 goals and 14 assists.

Now, he’s tearing up the Championship and he’s very much seen as Forest’s match-winner at the moment.

Brentford saw several bids turned down for the forward in January. Their final offer of £18 million was thought to be good enough for Forest, although they decided to keep the player in the end.

Palace could prove an attractive proposition. They are an established Premier League outfit and Patrick Vieira has a proud history with young players.

Contract: Forest must open talks with Johnson

Forest will be in limbo come the summer if Johnson doesn’t agree on terms on a new deal with the club.

The 20-year-old will be the subject of bids from several clubs, especially if he doesn’t sign a new contract as his valuation will naturally drop.

Quite how Forest have let the situation get like this is remarkable. Johnson has been one of the team’s very best players and he’s scoring for fun at the moment.

Palace are now in the mix to sign the player. Several other clubs will surely be monitoring the situation in the coming months too.

Forest as a Championship club will always be prone to a sale but they have to make sure they get the very best fee for Johnson.
