Nottingham Forest Under-18s secured a remarkable 2-1 win over table-topping Manchester City yesterday. A second-half goal from Detlef Esapa Osong saw the Reds claim a surprise scalp.

The Reds started brightly and were in front after just eight minutes. Isaiah Dada-Mascoll turned home after some strong work by Dale Taylor.

Shortly after Forest had a golden chance to go 2-0 up. The Reds strike was felled in the box but saw his spot-kick saved by George Murray-Jones in the City goal.

Forest were made to pay moments later too. Dan Ogwuru scored to restore parity for the league leaders and the Reds might have folded on another day.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

Warren Joyce’s men were brilliant though. They scored the winner six minutes after half-time with Esapa Osong once again etching his name on the score sheet.

The 17-year-old looks like being a future star. He’s well into double figures for the campaign and looks destined to be one for the future Forest first-team.

Esapa Osong is powerful for his age and also possesses unbelievable movement in and around the box. He’s also clinical beyond belief and the future looks very bright.

City have enjoyed a fantastic season but they came unstuck today against Joyce’s men following the manager’s masterclass.

Esapa Osong will hope to continue improving in the coming years and eventually make the step up to the senior ranks.

Forest have a manager who is an expert when it comes to working with younger talent and that must give the under-18 players a big boost.

Esapa Osong has massive potential and if he keeps improving he could play for the first team one day.
