Nottingham Forest fringe player Cafu has caught the eye of Steve Cooper but earlier today he was watching another club training.

The midfielder has been a peripheral figure during 2021/22. Recently, however, the Forest head coach called Cafu ‘excellent’ after a performance against Reading.

He’s worked hard when called upon during the campaign. Opportunities haven’t been forthcoming though and he’s been without a start since August.

Now, he’s been spotted in Portugal during a well-earned break. He hasn’t headed for the sunbeds or the beaches, however, and instead, he’s been catching up with Tiago Silva.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

Vitoria took the ex-Forest midfielder from Olympiacos in the summer and today they held an open training session for fans to attend.

Cafu was there and he looked to be deep in conversation with Silva in a photo he shared on his Instagram.

Vitoria were the club that nearly signed Tobias Figueiredo in January. Both the player and the club were keen but at the eleventh hour, a move fell south.

Cafu will hope for more opportunities to shine between now and the end of the season.

He has been pretty good when introduced from the bench lately and he must be close to getting a chance under Cooper.

Could Cafu leave Forest during the summer?

It’s worth noting that Cafu heading to watch Silva is probably harmless. The pair will be good pals from their time at Forest and the midfielder will have fancied heading home during the break.

Despite that, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Cafu leave during the summer. At 28-years-old he will want to play and it’s hard to see Cooper not strengthening his midfield in the summer.

James Garner will return to Manchester United. Forest will still have Ryan Yates, Jack Colback, Braian Ojeda and Tyrese Fornah in their ranks, however, and Cafu could be shunted out.

A move to his homeland is likely to be one he’d jump at and it will be interesting to see what happens with Cafu in the summer.
