Nottingham Forest man Richie Laryea is still waiting for his first appearance for the Reds. He arrived at the City Ground in January but has been left frustrated.

The defender checked in from Toronto FC and has been in Steve Cooper’s squads in recent weeks. As of yet though a first-team outing has eluded him.

Recently, Laryea helped Canada qualify for the World Cup. He was fantastic during a game against Costa Rica with a highlights reel of his best bits doing the rounds on social media.

The form of Djed Spence and the experience of Jack Colback have made getting a run out problematic. The Easter double-header could throw up the perfect opportunity for him to grasp his chance, however.

Forest travel to Luton on Good Friday before facing West Bromwich Albion at the City Ground on Monday. Two wins would see the Reds equal a 100-year record for the most successive wins.

Colback, 32, may need resting for one of those games and that could throw up an opportunity for Laryea to stake his claim for a place in Cooper’s side.

The Canadian will be desperate to prove himself in Europe. After signing in he spoke about playing on the continent being a dream come true for him.

Cooper must hand Laryea chance to impress for Forest

The 27-year-old needs to be given a chance. If Forest reach the end of season play-offs then he could be called upon.

For example, if Forest were to play Middlesbrough over two legs, Spence would be unable to feature in either game.

With that in mind, it’s crucial that Laryea earns a chance in the team between now and the end of the season.

The defender isn’t a young player and the Easter period could be a golden chance for Cooper to give Laryea his first outing.
