Nottingham Forest Under-18s continued their fine run of form this afternoon as they beat Newcastle 1-0 at the Nigel Doughty Training Ground. Detlef Esapa Osong scored the game’s only goal with 11 minutes remaining.

Forest have now won five of their last seven in the Under-18 Premier League and they also reached the final of the FA Youth Cup by beating Chelsea last week.

Warren Joyce has really transformed the team’s fortunes. It’s the first season in the top-flight of under-18s football for Forest and they endured a pretty tricky start.

The Reds are buzzing across the club at the moment. The first team are flying, the Under-23s are in great form and the under-18s are now on a crest of a wave.

Today’s win came against a decent Newcastle side. The Magpies, like Forest, have a proud history at academy level but the Reds have now done the double on them.

Forest have five league matches left to play this season and after today’s win, they’ve moved up to sixth in the league.

Every effort will be geared towards being in the best form possible when the time comes to head to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup final.

Esapa Osong could become a Forest star

It was the talented 17-year-old who once again came up trumps for Forest. He’s now scored 11 league goals and 19 in all competitions this season.

A powerful talisman, Esapa Osong was the hero of the hour for Forest against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup. He scored twice during the 3-1 win and clearly, he’s a talented lad.
