Brennan Johnson took his tally of Nottingham Forest goals to 16 with a cooly taken penalty during a 4-0 win over West Brom. After the game, the forward received praise on Instagram from his partner in crime Djed Spence.
The pair have been devastating down Forest’s right this season. Opposition defenders have enjoyed very little in the way of joy from the Forest duo and they could lead the Reds to promotion.
Johnson stepped up after Darnell Furlong had handled a Philip Zinckernagel shot to beat David Button in the Albion goal. It was the first time the Forest man had taken a penalty since his miss against Sheffield United.
Ryan Yates, Jack Colback and Sam Surridge added further goals. For the Reds, it was a sensational win and one that sees the team take a massive step towards concreting their place in the play-offs.
Forest go to Peterborough on Saturday and also face Fulham, Bournemouth and Hull on the road before the season draws to a close. Steve Cooper’s ex-team Swansea are also due on Trentside.
The Reds have a five-point cushion on the team in seventh place. Crucially Millwall and Blackburn only have three more games left to play this season, with Forest having five.
What has Spence said about Forest star Johnson?
The influential Forest pair have tormented teams at free will down the right-hand side. Both Spence and Johnson look destined for stardom and they clearly have a telepathic understanding.
Forest have a real gem in Johnson and at 20-years-old he looks certain to play in the Premier League. If the Reds continue to fly, that could be next season with Forest.
Spence clearly likes playing alongside Johnson and together the duo could lead Forest into the Premier League and then continue their partnership in the top-flight next season.
