Nottingham Forest beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage to throw themselves into the mix for automatic promotion. Cafu came on for a cameo in West London and after the game, Djed Spence congratulated the midfielder on his tidy performance.

The 29-year-old has been a peripheral Forest figure this season. His only league start came back in August when Chris Hughton was still in charge and he’s made 12 substitute appearances for the Reds.

Steve Cooper has instilled a belief in his whole squad, however, that has helped players like Cafu. Last night he played for 17 minutes and produced a mature performance to see the Reds over the line.

  • MISTAKE: Ryan Yates had to have stern words with key figure

The man signed from Olympiacos hasn’t sulked at his lack of action. If anything, when he has been given minutes on the pitch, he’s used them to try and express himself and prove a point to his manager.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

Cafu has made 51 appearances for Forest during his time at the club. He’s found the net once in a 4-1 win over Swansea and has also claimed three assists.

In truth, his game isn’t about goal contributions. His sole remit when he gets introduced is to keep things ticking over and work tirelessly out of possession.

What has Spence said about Forest man Cafu?

Despite taking up the role of a fringe player this season, it would seem as though he’s a popular member of the dressing room.

Last night, he teed Brennan Johnson up for a good chance and had he buried it, he’d have claimed a lovely assist after dummying Tim Ream.

Spence took to Instagram after the game to comment on a post made by Cafu. He summed up what he wanted to say in three words and it seems clear his teammates value his contributions.
