Nottingham Forest apparently want to sign Cyrus Christie on a free transfer this summer and he’s been discussing his future with The Athletic.

The defender spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at the City Ground. He made 44 appearances and by the end of his time at the club, he’d changed supporters’ opinion of him.

Christie didn’t sign for Forest ahead of pre-season. That meant that he was largely inconsistent during his first few months at the club, with angst towards his efforts.

He did win the fans over though and during the second half of 2021/22, he shone on loan at Swansea; scoring three goals and claiming five assists.

Now, he’s a free agent. He won’t be extending his stay with Fulham following promotion to the Premier League, although he’s keen to play in the top flight.

Christie told The Athletic: “Opportunities are presenting themselves now. I won’t put all my eggs in one basket.

“I can reach the Premier League again, I want to get back there. It didn’t go according to plan last time but you can’t be scared of going back.

“I’m in a good place, physically and mentally doing really well. I feel fit and I’d love to get in somewhere and get a full pre-season. It’s time to kick on.”

Forest want Christie but is he really the right Spence replacement

At 29-years-old, Christie has been there and seen it all when it comes to the Championship. He does have just 28 Premier League appearances to his name, however, and that would be a concern.

If Forest don’t go up he perhaps wouldn’t be a bad option to consider. Djed Spence will almost certainly leave and that would leave them short at right-back.

Christie doesn’t really fit the criteria of what Dane Murphy typically looks for, given that he’s now creeping towards 30.

The former Forest man is a pretty reliable performer but he wouldn’t exactly represent an exciting summer addition to the Forest ranks.
