Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Sheyi Ojo in August 2020. Today, the winger was released by Liverpool and he’s now available on a free transfer.
Sabri Lamouchi was desperate to add some width to his squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign. As a result, the Reds wide man was viewed as a target.
Nothing came to fruition though. Instead, the former England under-21 performer headed to Cardiff where he endured something of an indifferent spell in Wales.

Ojo arrived at Liverpool in 2011. He was viewed as a highly-rated teenager at the time but spent lots of time out on loan following his arrival at Anfield.
The 24-year-old spent time at Wigan, Wolves, Fulham, Stade Reims, Rangers, Cardiff and last season with Millwall in the Championship.
Ojo went out on temporary deals almost as many times as he played for the Reds. He managed just 13 outings for Liverpool, scoring once and claiming four assists.
It’s no surprise that Jurgen Klopp has opted to release the winger. He played just 21 times for the Lions during last season and boss Gary Rowett questioned his consistency in December.
Ojo will now be on the lookout for a new club. His level looks like the Championship, although some of the bigger outfits in League One might fancy giving him a chance.
Forest linked with Ojo in 2020 and they were right not to grab him
The 2020/21 campaign was a bit of a disaster from a Forest perspective. With that in mind, perhaps Ojo might not have been a bad short-term addition.
Still, he’s done very little at either Millwall or Cardiff and in truth, he’s yet to really showcase any real quality to become a top Championship player.

Forest had the likes of Sammy Ameobi and Anthony Knockaert out wide during that campaign. It’s probably fair to say that Ojo wouldn’t have been any better than those two.
Now, he finds himself looking to rescue his career. Wherever he ends up it’s unlikely to be at a club like Forest where Premier League football is being served next season.
Ojo has the talent to become a good player. Clearly, his next manager must be someone who can unearth the rough diamond and get him back to the form he showed in his teenage years.
