Nottingham Forest might have been handed a massive boost in the quest to sign Djed Spence. It’s been claimed by Sport that Tottenham are now interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk defender Dodo during the summer transfer window.

It seems clear what profile Spurs are looking at in their quest to sign a new right-sided wing-back. Dodo is two years older than Spence but is more accustomed to flying up the flank than he is to defending at the other end.

Tottenham won’t be alone in the race to sign Dodo. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are both keen; with the player looking set to move from the Ukrainian-based club before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.

Forest are firmly in the mix to sign Spence. It was claimed recently that the Reds believed they were frontrunners to secure a permanent deal for their loan star.

During 2021/22, he was fantastic for Forest. He played over 40 times and helped the Reds reach the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

Tottenham’s interest is a worry though. They will play in the Champions League next season and naturally, that makes them a big draw for players.

Tottenham want Dodo and this could be huge for Forest

It seems unlikely that Tottenham will sign two right wing-backs this summer. Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty are the current options and it’s likely to be one of those plus a new signing who compete for the place.

Spence is fancied by Antonio Conte. That said, it’s easy to say why they would pursue Dodo, with Sport hyping him up as the next Dani Alves.

It’s unlikely that Spence would play all too often at Tottenham. He may get a better salary in North London but after enjoying his football last season, he’s likely to prioritise regular action.

Forest fans would be wise not to pop the party poppers just yet. If Tottenham make a concrete offer for Dodo, however, the Reds fan base could be forgiven for sticking the champagne on ice ready in waiting.
