Two former Nottingham Forest players are trying to thwart the Reds in their efforts to sign Nicolas Tagliafico.
The Reds are eyeing an ambitious raid on Ajax to sign the Argentinean defender this summer.
Forest are back in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years and Evangelos Marinakis will back Steve Cooper.
Tagliafico has a year to run on his existing deal but he could be allowed to leave the Dutch champions.
A report by Sport claimed that he could be available for as little as £4 million and that would be remarkable business.
One of the other teams interested in Tagliafico is Marseille and two ex-Forest men will try and secure the deal.
Matthieu Louis-Jean is the club’s chief scout, whilst David Friio is the club’s technical director.
It’s been a magnificent 12 months for the Ligue 1 club and their second-place finish has earned them a Champions League berth.
Now Louis-Jean and Friio will aim to secure a stellar signing or two; with Tagliafico on their list of targets.
The interest from Forest has got some supporters dreaming that a truly stellar signing can be completed.
Tagliafico was attracting interest from Arsenal not long back, whilst Tottenham have also shown previous interest.
The 29-year-old has been at Ajaz since 2018 when he checked in from Independiente.
He’s made 167 appearances for the club but will now be a wanted man this summer.
Forest chase Tagliafico but signing him ahead of Marseille will be tough
The Reds are right to be interested in the player but persuading him to join is a different matter altogether.
Marseille will have Champions League football to offer the left wing-back. As a result, Louis-Jean and Friio will certainly be in the driving seat.
Taglifico would be a game-changing addition to the Reds’ ranks and signing him would send out a statement.
A deal will be tough though and at £4 million half of Europe will likely be interested in the 40-cap international.
Louis-Jean and Friio have done great things since leaving the Reds and they could land a magnificent player if they can take Tagliafico to Marseille.
