Zian Flemming was desperately wanted at Nottingham Forest by Dane Murphy but yesterday he made a surprise move to Championship outfit Millwall.

Gary Rowett sent a statement out to the rest of the division by landing the Dutch attacking midfielder.

Flemming has checked in from Fortuna Sittard where he has played since the summer of 2020.

Last season he performed brilliantly, scoring 12 goals and registering four assists for the Eredivisie outfit.

In total, Flemming made 63 appearances for Sittard, scoring 27 times and claiming 11 assists.

Now, he will embark on a new challenge with Millwall, with the Lions paying a club-record £2 million.

Flemming has finally got his move to England but things could have been different for the forward.

Last summer he was heavily courted by Dane Murphy, with the CEO desperate to bring him to the City Ground.

Sittard dug their heels in on that occasion but this summer they’ve granted Flemming his desire to play in England.

The 23-year-old typically operates as an attacking midfielder but he occasionally operates up front.

That level of versatility might have made him useful for Forest and he’s certainly produced the goods in Holland.

Flemming was wanted by Forest and Millwall move is intriguing

The Dutchman is at a nice age where he could still make the step up to the Premier League.

As a result, Forest will perhaps be one club that monitor his time in the capital with intrigue.

Flemming plays in a couple of positions and he certainly has the game to take the Championship by storm.

The Reds will have their eyes cast on other targets this summer now they’re a top-flight club.

That doesn’t mean that Murphy won’t be continuing to keep Flemming at close quarters.

As a young talent there’s no reason why Forest won’t bid for the ex-Ajax trainee further down the line should he impress at Millwall.
