Joe Worrall has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. The owner has showcased some serious ambition this summer with the club having signed 11 new players.
Forest won promotion back to the Premier League after 23 years away with a win over Huddersfield in May. Shortly after, Marinakis stated his ambition and said that he doesn’t want Forest to become a yo-yo team.
That level of ambition has delighted Worrall. Clearly, he’s been given a lift by the players that have arrived and he’s spoken with excitement in his voice ahead of next season.
Forest will make their Premier League bow on Saturday week. They head to Newcastle first up, before facing West Ham in the club’s first home game back in the top division.
Speaking ahead of the campaign, Worrall has suggested that he’s satisfied with Marinakis’ recent comments. There’s also a clear indication that he wants Forest to kick on.
He told TalkSPORT via Nottinghamshire Live: “I think the owner has been fantastic. He stood on the balcony over Market Square when we had our parade and suggested we aren’t there to make the numbers up.
“He’s shown that by signing the players that he has and spending the money he, bringing in the calibre of players he has. Everything is structured through the club, from the owners to the directions, from the manager to the players.
“The DNA of the club is something we need to carry on to next season. The success we had in the Championship wasn’t by luck. Everything was calculated.”
Praise heaped on Marinakis by Worrall and the big challenge starts now
Forest have to get serious now. The transfer business has been good but the proof will be in the pudding once the Premier League campaign gets underway.
The Reds face a thankless start to the season. Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, Tottenham and Manchester City provide the opposition in August and that looks daunting.
Forest defied the odds last season though. Steve Cooper took them from rock bottom to promotion winners in just a matter of months and few will be writing them off again.
It’s good to hear that Worrall is impressed with Marinakis. The Reds look to be in safe hands with the Greek businessman at the helm and long may the success continue.
