Nottingham Forest are set to complete the £10 million signing of Atalanta star Remo Freuler, according to Tutto Mercato Web. The player is set to sign for the club in the next day or so, with the player flying to England for a medical on Thursday.

The player is keen to sign for Forest, with the formalities close to completion. Freuler was recently told by Gian Piero Gasperini that he wasn’t part of his plans for the 2022/23 campaign.

The 30-year-old has previously been called the ‘most underrated player in Europe’, has made over 200 appearances since joining from FC Luzern in 2016.

Last season he captained Atalanta in both games they played against Manchester United in the Champions League. He was also a first-team regular under Gasperini; making 43 appearances and laying on six assists.

Forest are starting to get a decent midfield together. Orel Mangala and Lewis O’Brien have been added; whilst Ryan Yates and Jack Colback remain from last season’s promotion-winning team.

Elsewhere, former Crystal Palace man Cheikhou Kouyate could also still join the club this summer.

Freuler is also a regular on the international stage. He’s made 46 appearances and featured in all of their Euro 2020 games during last summer’s tournament.

It’s claimed in the latest report that Freuler will pen a three-year contract with Forest.

Forest inching closer to Freuler signing

It was clear in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Newcastle that the Reds are light. Particularly in midfield, the Reds were overrun on several occasions and that can’t keep happening.

Freuler will be a useful addition to the ranks. He has vast experience and can act as a defensive shield to allow someone like O’Brien or Mangala to thrive further forward.

It sounds like today will be crucial in the negotiations and as a result, the Reds faithful will have everything crossed that the medical goes according to plan.
