Nottingham Forest were linked with Mislav Orsic this summer and the Dinamo Zagreb ace has played a part in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea exit.
In truth, it’s probably easier to list the players who weren’t linked with Forest over the summer.
Forest’s summer spending spree saw them rack up more than 20 signings; some for now, some for the future, some… well, some for Olympiacos.
A host names were linked and didn’t end up joining, with Dinamo winger Orsic just one of them…
Nottingham Forest were linked with Mislav Orsic
Back in July, Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti reported that Forest had made contact to try and sign Dinamo star Orsic.
Orsic was outstanding for Dinamo last season, racking up 20 goals and six assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.
The Croatian put himself on to Forest’s radar, and it would have been interesting to see where Orsic would have played for Forest.
The 29-year-old is predominantly a winger and we can’t really see him playing as a wing back, so maybe Steve Cooper fancied Orsic as a striker or number 10.
Either way, no deal was done and Orsic has started this season in blistering form.
Orsic has smashed nine goals and six assists in his first 15 games this term and he secured a win over Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Dinamo hosted Chelsea in the opening game of their Champions League group stage campaign and Orsic grabbed the win.
Sent clean through on goal, Orsic outpaced the Chelsea defence before flicking the ball beyond Edouard Mendy for the winner.
Chelsea couldn’t get back into the game and Orsic was once again the hero for Dinamo, as he so often has been.
In the wake of that defeat, Chelsea have now decided to sack manager Thomas Tuchel and are seeking replacement.
Tuchel and Chelsea may well be ruing that Forest didn’t sign Orsic after he ruined their night, and maybe he’s a name for Forest to keep tabs on moving forward too.
