Nottingham Forest tried to sign Yunus Musah in the summer and they might now have blown their chance to land the midfielder.

The talented performer was instrumental for the USA during their run to the last 16 of the World Cup.

Forest had their sights on lots of players in the summer. They signed a staggering 22 and recently Gustavo Scarpa made it 23 for the campaign.

Musah would have been a very useful addition. He’s been with Valencia for three years since Arsenal decided to offload him.

During the 2022/23 campaign, he’s made 16 appearances and is now a regular in Gennaro Gattuso’s team.

The World Cup has done Forest now favours at all. Now, the Gunners are keen to re-sign him and other interested parties are emerging too.

Forest made a bid of £25 million to sign Musah during the summer and he could now be worth double that valuation.

One performance at the World Cup showcased what he’s all about. During a 1-0 win over Iran, NBC Sports called him ‘monstrous’ and a ‘complete midfielder’ for his mature performance.

Musah played in all four of the USA’s games at the tournament and was unfortunate to be on the losing side against Holland.

Forest might have blown chance to sign Musah

In terms of the finances involved, Forest shouldn’t be discounted just yet. Evangelos Marinakis has showcased supreme ambition and he might do that again.

However, with Arsenal in the race to sign him, it does seem as though Forest are fighting with stellar competition now.

Next season, the Gunners will likely be in the Champions League and surely the midfielder will jump at that opportunity.

Being linked with Musah shows that Forest are targeting the right sort of players and for that, they must be admired.

Musah now looks like an unattainable signing. He has some of Europe’s top clubs targeting him and in January he will be worth an absolute fortune.

Forest will continue monitoring Musah with intrigue. He looks like a quality player and Premier League football looks to beckon.

That might not be with Forest though and they might have missed the boat with the American.
