Reputable journalist John Percy has made an intriguing Nottingham Forest claim after it was announced that Dane Murphy has left his role as the club’s CEO by mutual consent.

The American has left his position after 18 months at the football club. He was a popular figure behind the scenes and some of his work helped the club win promotion to the Premier League.

After announcing his departure, Percy has made an intriguing claim. He’s suggested that things weren’t quite aligned behind the scenes when it came to backing Steve Cooper.

The Telegraph reporter has claimed that Murphy’s relationship with key figures became strained after they failed to back Cooper earlier in the season.

It’s claimed that his decision to stick with the head coach at that period has left his relationship strained with key figures. As a result, the club and Murphy have now agreed to mutually end their relationship.

That said, the Tweet is worded quite weirdly. Some are suggesting that the claim appears to suggest that it was Murphy who was the one not backing Cooper after the Leicester game.

It’s certainly an intriguing Twitter post that has sparked discussion. Percy is usually right on the money when it comes to Forest content and it’s hard to see why this wouldn’t be accurate.

Evangelos Marinakis chose to back Cooper in the end. He handed him a new three-year contract at a time when many thought he was about to be replaced as the club’s head coach.

Intriguing Murphy claim made after Nottingham Forest announcement

It certainly seems as though the departure is amicable. After departing the City Ground, Murphy made a statement to the club’s official website.

In the statement, he thanked most of his co-workers and the owners of the club. He also paid testament to the support to him by the club’s supporters and claimed it’s been an honour to work at the City Ground.

Interestingly, he also claimed that he’d miss Forest. It’s a statement that sounds like he wished things had been different.

As always with this type of thing, the truth will always come out in the wash. Murphy appointed Cooper and the fact he backed his man in October is an admirable trait.

Given that the club backed down and gave Cooper a new deal, it seems as though Murphy can leave the club with his head held high.
