Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has provided an update on Nottingham Forest in their quest to sign Newcastle striker Chris Wood.
The striker is thought to be close to joining the Reds on loan for the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.
Wood has played quite a bit of football this season; featuring in all of Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures this season.
A large number of those outings have come from the bench though. Now, with Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak fit, his chances would be restricted.

Sheth is a man with his finger firmly on the pulse of the transfer gossip and he’s been told things are moving along.
He’s claimed that the move could be clever, with Newcastle allowing Forest to include an option to buy.
If the striker scores enough goals between now and the end of the season to ensure survival, the Reds could choose to land him permanently.
Should Forest fail in that quest but Wood plays lots of football, he might retain some sell-on value.
Wood has scored 59 goals in the Premier League across spells with Newcastle and Burnley.
He cost the Magpies £25 million a year ago. Last year he helped the team survive relegation from the Premier League.

It looks as though things are moving quickly with this one. Sheth knows his stuff and Wood looks close to Forest.
This looks like a steady signing for the Reds too. A new striker has been identified after the devastating news that Taiwo Awoniyi will miss two months.
Wood is an experienced performer and he knows what it takes to keep teams in the Premier League.

That level of expertise could be vital in the run-in and Forest might be striking a really useful deal here.
Perhaps the most crucial aspect of this deal is that Steve Cooper has identified Wood as a player that he wants.
As a result, it would appear that the club and the manager are perfectly aligned when it comes to the transfer business this month.
