Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has provided an update on Chris Wood after he signed for Nottingham Forest earlier today – and it’s an exciting piece of news.
The striker has joined the Reds on loan for the second half of the 2022/23 campaign in a deal that could become a permanent one.
Wood has played quite a bit of football this season; featuring in all of Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures this season.
A large number of those outings have come from the bench though. Now, with Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak fit, his chances would have been restricted.
Downie is a man with his finger on the pulse when it comes to the deals in the North-East.
He’s claimed that the contract was actually signed by Wood in time for him to potentially play against Bournemouth tomorrow.
Whether Steve Cooper feels he’s ready to play remains to be seen but if not he will be a nice option from the bench.
Wood has scored 59 goals in the Premier League across spells with Newcastle and Burnley.
He cost the Magpies £25 million a year ago. Last year he helped the team survive relegation from the Premier League.

This morning it was claimed, also by Sky Sports, that Wood might not be able to play tomorrow due to how long it would take to get him registered.
This looks like a steady signing for the Reds. A new striker has been identified after the devastating news that Taiwo Awoniyi will miss two months.
Wood is an experienced performer and he knows what it takes to keep teams in the Premier League.
It would be a shock to see the striker start tomorrow, with Cooper likely to stick largely with his team that beat Leicester last week.
Wood will be a useful option over the next few months, however, and it will be intriguing to see what role he plays.
