Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has provided an update on the transfer of Chris Wood to Nottingham Forest – and there’s a disappointing caveat.

The Reds will sign the Newcastle United striker later today after the 31-year-old completed his medical at the City Ground.

Wood will swap a Champions League chase for a relegation battle and his experience could prove absolutely vital.

The striker signed for Newcastle for £25 million this time last year. His presence in the team helped them secure Premier League survival.

Wood looks set to get over the line in the coming hours but Thomas has told Sky Sports that there is a disappointing element of the deal.

Forest would have loved to have had Wood available for tomorrow’s trip to Bournemouth.

It now seems as though the deal will be completed today but not in time for Wood to play for Forest on the south coast.

Tomorrow looks like a big game. Bournemouth have lost their last six Premier League games and desperately need to beat Forest.

Should the Reds win, they will put more daylight between them and the other teams towards the bottom of the division.

Wood also looks set to agree on terms of a permanent deal and that will be triggered as soon as certain criteria are met.

Thomas has provided an update on Wood transfer and it’s a bit disappointing

It’s a massive shame that Forest won’t have Wood available for their trip to Bournemouth tomorrow.

His presence in attack could have given a defence short of confidence a pretty torrid time of things.

Still, it is what it is and now Steve Cooper will have to plot another strategy in order to claim a vital win at Bournemouth.

One silver lining to this grey cloud is that Wood will now get a couple of weeks to work with his new teammates.

Forest aren’t in Premier League action until February after tomorrow when they face Leeds at the City Ground.

Wood looks like a very useful signing and it will be interesting to see how he gets on at Forest.
