Reading boss Paul Ince is hoping to sign Nottingham Forest duo Lyle Taylor and Cafu before tonight’s transfer deadline. According to The Athletic, both players are on the radar of the Royals as they go in search of new players.
Forest are still hopeful of signing some more players of their own today. However, it’s fair to say that they do need to shuffle the pack and get some players out of the door.
Taylor and Cafu are both way down the pecking order and deemed surplus to requirements. The pair were left out of the 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season and aren’t close to being registered.

Taylor hasn’t played for Forest since last season. He spent the last half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan with Birmingham and scored six goals as they avoided relegation.
Cafu did actually make an appearance in the Prmeier League for the Reds. He came on as a substitute in the 1-0 home win against West Ham and also played in the League Cup against Grimsby.
At 29-years-old, however, he will want to play football. Steve Cooper has spoken fondly of Cafu, calling him ‘excellent’ back in March with the Reds chasing promotion from the Championship.
Reading are hoping to sign Taylor and Cafu
The sooner the pair leave the club the better. Taylor desperately needs to move on to further his career, whilst Cafu probably can count himself a little bit unlucky this season.
Forest have quite simply got better players available at their disposal now. Remo Freuler, Cheikhou Kouyate, Lewis O’Brien and Orel Mangala were all added to the ranks during the summer.

As a result, Cafu fell down the pecking order. It was perhaps disappointing in his eyes that a move couldn’t be found for him on the transfer deadline day in August and he’s had to watch on from afar.
Now, the pair could be set to end their frustration. It would seem as though Reading want to take a punt on both players and that will definitely bode well for all parties.
