Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has told Stadium Astro that there is no ceiling on the potential of Brennan Johnson. The boss made the claim during a recent interview and he’s happy with the forward.

Cooper isn’t one for pulling punches. He’s explained that he’s constantly on at Johnson, should his standards drop below what the boss knows one of his star players is capable of.

The Reds performer has been in decent form of late. It’s fair to say that he’s kicked on since the World Cup and he’s looked like a far bigger influence on games than he did before Qatar.

Johnson was quizzed on how far Johnson can go in the game during one of his most recent interviews. He doesn’t think there is any point in placing a ceiling on how he could go.

Cooper told Stadium Astro: “I believe in him. He can be wherever he wants to be. Behind the scenes, I’m doing everything for him to be the best he can be. As I keep saying to him you’ve got to do your best all the time. That’s his weekly challenge. There’s no ceiling. Why stick a ceiling on it? Just be the best you can be all of the time.”

At 21-years-old, Johnson simply needs to continue honing his skills and enjoying his football. Under Cooper, there is a real sense that he will do that and long may his current form continue.

His blistering volley against Leeds gave Forest a huge three points. Before that, he got the assist for Sam Surridge’s equaliser at Bournemouth and he also scored twice against Leicester.

Now, Cooper is right. Johnson’s challenge is consistency and doing it on the grandest stage on a more frequent basis will naturally take some time for a young player.

Johnson has bags of time to continue improving. Forest fans will hope that he and Cooper can continue to thrive this season and beyond and who knows where he could go.
