Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough has told the club’s official website that Nottingham Forest youngster Will Swan has picked up an injury to his ankle. The player will now face a period on the sidelines as the Stags chase promotion to League One.

Swan joined the North Nottinghamshire outfit during the summer on a season-long loan deal. The youngster is producing the goods in League Two under Clough, scoring nine goals and claiming an assist.

The 22-year-old is under contract at Forest until 2024. He has played twice for the senior ranks at the City Ground, with Chris Hughton handing him a debut in 2020 during a game against Reading.

Swan has struggled to impose himself on the first team on a consistent basis at the City Ground. Last season he was a revelation in the club’s Premier League 2 campaign, scoring 12 goals as the team reached the play-offs.

Naturally, the next chapter would likely involve a loan move to play some regular football. A previous spell with Port Vale wasn’t fruitful but going to play under Clough was always likely to reap more rewards.

Now, Swan is facing a spell on the sidelines. The injury problems are stacking up for Clough and speaking to the club’s official website, he confirmed: “Will Swan, we’ve not had good news on him really. He’s had a scan and he’s done some ligament damage in his ankle in training last week.”

Clough says Swan has picked up an injury

Even the Forest players out on loan are struggling to stay fit for a prolonged period of time! The Reds themselves have a rotten list of injuries piled up at the City Ground and now Swan has a problem too.

The youngster will hope to get back on the pitch as soon as possible. Not only was he playing well before the injury struck but he’s also scoring goals and looking in good shape.

Clough has really got a tune out of the academy graduate. With another year on his contract at Forest, he will hope to get back on the pitch and score more goals before the end of 2022/23.

Swan has showcased himself as a quality striker who does more than score goals during his time at One Call Stadium. The talented player will hope that his time at Mansfield hasn’t ended prematurely due to his current ankle problem.
