Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates has missed the last five matches in all competitions through illness. Now, however, he’s been spotted back in training and he could be on his way back.

Yates is one of Forest’s most tireless performers. He was substituted at half-time of a 2-0 win over Leicester and then the week after he was withdrawn prior to the interval at Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old has proved a bit of a mystery to the medical staff. But, eventually, they did discover what was wrong with the midfielder and now they’ve managed to get him back on the road to recovery.

Yates has taken to life in the Premier League pretty well. He took some time to get up to speed earlier in the campaign but after coming of age during a 1-0 win over Liverpool in October, he’s really kicked on.

Yates was named as the vice-captain ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. He has worn the armband on several occasions during the season and he’s a vitally influential figure in the Forest dressing room.

Now, it would appear that Yates is back on the mend. The club’s official media team posted an image of the midfielder on the training ground yesterday and he might make the trip to West Ham.

Yates spotted back in training after illness and Cooper has a conundrum

In his absence, Forest have lost just once in the Premier League. As a result, Steve Cooper will have a massive conundrum to crack as he puts his team together for this weekend.

Yates is clearly an important player for the Reds. However, he’s had to watch on as other players have staked their claim for a regular place, with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Danilo both impressing.

The academy graduate will definitely have a part to play at the City Ground. It remains to be seen whether Yates will have to start with a place on the bench, or whether Cooper will be putting him straight back in the starting eleven.

Nonetheless, it’s nice to see Forest starting to get a couple of players back. Injuries are stacking up and having Yates back in action would be a welcome boost for the Reds.
