Nottingham Forest striker Will Swan will miss the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign with an ankle injury. The heartbreaking news has been confirmed by Mansfield Town first-team coach Andy Garner during this morning’s press briefing.

Swan has been in fine form for the Stags during the current campaign. He has scored nine goals from 31 appearances and he was just starting to get a regular run in Nigel Clough’s team.

Now, the player has suffered a huge disappointment. The Stags defeated AFC Wimbledon on Saturday and are firmly in the mix to try and claim promotion this season.

Swan was allowed to join the Stags following promotion for Forest back in May. First-team football was arguably impossible for Swan in the Premier League and he jumped at the chance to join Mansfield.

The Forest academy graduate had missed the last three matches for Stags. It had been hoped that he wouldn’t be out for long but now their worst fears have been confirmed.

This offers the League Two side a huge blow. The challenge for Forest now is to get him fit and ready for next season when the club will likely choose to loan him out once again.

This is never nice for a young player to go through. Swan is a determined player though and it’s fair to say that he will be desperate to bounce back from this setback even stronger.

Swan has proved himself at Mansfield. He’s kept his spirits high even when he’s not been in the team and he’s scored some vital goals for the Stags during the campaign.

There isn’t really much that Swan can do now. He must return to Forest determined to get fit as quickly as possible and be all systems go ready to attack the next season.
