A report by The Times has claimed that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keeping an eye on the progress of Nottingham Forest man Dean Henderson.
The goalkeeper is currently nursing a thigh injury. He’s been replaced as the team’s number one by Keylor Navas and it’s not clear when he will return.
A number of reports have emerged whilst he’s been at Forest. As a result, his future is unclear at this stage leaving the Reds on tenterhooks.
United will likely hand David de Gea a new contract. Henderson will not want to return to Old Trafford if he’s the second choice and that could help Forest.
First, the Reds will need to ensure they stay in the Premier League first. If they do, signing the 26-year-old could be ideal for Forest.
Henderson has made 20 appearances for the Reds during 2022/23. He’s kept six clean sheets and also saved penalties from Declan Rice and Harry Kane during the campaign.
Forest would dearly love to sign Henderson on a permanent basis. He’s a player rated highly by Steve Cooper and he’s got his best years ahead of him.
Sheffield United star Sander Berge previously raved about Henderson. He called him ‘insane’ after some remarkable form for the Blades.
United manager Ten Hag keeping close eye on Henderson
The Dutch manager may want to keep Henderson but he might not wish to stay. Henderson has been openly critical about United previously and his days could be numbered there.
Ten Hag will be keen to throw United into title contention next season. With that in mind, he will want a strong goalkeeper and a solid backup for his squad.
Henderson is desperate to play regular football. With Navas likely to go back to PSG at the end of the campaign, the Reds would love to keep hold of Henderson.
If Premier League football is secured, the Reds must move quickly. Other clubs will be keen and Forest must show their hand straight away to United.
