Morgan Gibbs-White is the best player that Nottingham Forest have, according to Jermaine Jenas. The man who started his career at the City Ground has been discussing the England under-21 captain during a recent interview

It was a proud moment for the 23-year-old yesterday. He skippered the young lions as they defeated France 4-0 at the King Power Stadium; with Gibbs-White claiming an assist.

Gibbs-White has worked hard for that opportunity. He’s progressed through the England ranks and won the World Cup with the Under-17s when Steve Cooper was the manager.

Jenas knows what it takes to come through the ranks too. He rose through the City Ground youth teams to star in the first team and earn himself a move to Newcastle.

Now, he’s weighed in on the fortunes of the current crop of first-team talent. He believes that Gibbs-White is currently the club’s best player.

Jenas told The Mirror: “Gibbs-White has been their best player but he’s struggling for goals quite heavily.

“I’m not having a go at Morgan because he’s been brilliant but to stay in this league they will have a big couple of months coming up.

“Once Morgan gets a goal he will crack on. If he does that they’ll have no problem staying in the league.”

Jenas says Gibbs-White is the best player at Forest

The man who was signed for a club record fee has been useful this season. It’s fair to say that there is more to come in the way of goals and assists, however.

Gibbs-White is learning all of the time. In Cooper, he has a manager that trusts him considerably and that will only aid his development.

At 23 there is a lot more to come from the versatile forward. He will hope to add to his goal contribution tally but there is no reason why he won’t do that.

Jenas is right with these comments. If Forest are to stay in the Premier League this season, Gibbs-White is going to be absolutely vital to the team’s fortunes.
