Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has confirmed that Chris Wood will be out of action for the rest of the Premier League campaign.

It never rains it pours. On Trentside this season, it’s never stopped pouring and this is another blow for Forest.

Cooper has delivered the devastating blow when doing his pre-match press conference to the club’s official website.

Wood hobbled out of the game against Tottenham recently with a thigh problem shortly after coming on as a substitute.

Now, Cooper has confirmed that the striker signed from Newcastle has picked up another injury problem on international duty.

The 31-year-old joined the Reds in January. He swapped the Magpies for the City Ground and scored an equalising goal against Manchester City.

Wood will now sit out for the remainder of the campaign. The news intensifies Forest’s need to get Taiwo Awoniyi back on the pitch quickly.

The signing was met with some angst from Forest fans. The consensus was that Wood wasn’t right for the system that Cooper wants to play.

In fairness, that critique has been quite accurate, with Wood not overly convincing operating as the left-sided forward.

The man who helped Newcastle avoid relegation last season will now sit out the remainder of the campaign.

It’s a blow to Forest but as Cooper always says, it will now be a case of the next man up.

This is a significant blow to the Reds. Although Wood has hardly set the league alight, Forest are short of options.

Staying in the Premier League looks like a tall order. The injury list is showing no signs of getting shorter and Forest look to be in trouble.

Wood has already met the criteria for his loan move to become permanent. He will be a Forest player next season and now he must get fit.

The experienced performer will likely be a huge blow for the Reds. If not for his quality on the pitch but also for his leadership within the dressing room.
