Nottingham Forest chose not to sign John Bostock permanently in 2020 and this afternoon he’s set to take part in a huge game for Notts County. The midfielder will hope to play a starring role as the Magpies face Wrexham this afternoon.

It’s been quite a season in the National League this season. Both clubs are worthy of promotion to the EFL and both teams have already amassed a quite remarkable 100 points and each scored 100 goals during 2022/23.

Today is likely to be decisive. If County win they will go three points clear of Wrexham who will have played a game fewer than their rivals. If the Welsh outfit can claim all three points, they will return to the summit.

Bostock has been a brilliant signing for County. His experience has proved crucial during the second half of the campaign and Notts have been beaten just once when he’s played.

The midfielder has made 20 appearances for the Magpies. He’s proved a big player at Meadow Lane and perhaps the experienced performer can help the club win promotion now.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a pretty unorthodox career, playing in several different countries. He’s played for Toulouse, Toronto, Lens, Leuven, Royal Antwerp and Bursaspor on the continent.

Bostock has also turned out for Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Swindon, Hull and Doncaster during his career playing in English football.

His time at Forest proved a little bit frustrating for him. Sabri Lamouchi often preferred other options and he was restricted to just nine appearances during the 2019/20 campaign.

He did register a couple of assists during his time at Forest. The midfielder wasn’t signed permanently at the end of his loan, with the club going in a different direction instead.

This looks like being a truly incredible contest between the two best sides in non-league football. It really could go some way to deciding who claims the title and three points today would be huge.

Bostock has played in bigger games during his career. Boss Luke Williams will know that and surely the experienced performer will be one of the first names on the team sheet today.

Forest fans were big fans of Bostock during his time at the City Ground. Plenty believed he was vastly underused and wished him well following his departure at the end of the season.

Now, he has a huge chance to become a real hero on the other side of the River Trent.
