Nottingham Forest v Manchester United: What’s the story?

This is the type of fixture that Forest have waited 23 years for. Ultimately, however, unless the Reds start picking up points, they will make an immediate return to the Championship.

Forest slipped into the bottom three last week when they lost to Aston Villa. It was an abject performance, particularly in the second half and Steve Cooper must address it.

Forest and United both have injury problems today.

United won’t have Marcus Rashford in their ranks. They’re also depleted defensively too, with Lisandro Martinez now out of action for the remainder of the campaign.

Forest haven’t tasted the sweetness of victory since early February when they beat Leeds. If that run continues, relegation will soon become a forgone conclusion.

Cooper has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. It’s likely that Evangelos Marinakis will be on Trentside this afternoon and the head coach badly needs his players to turn in a performance.

Forest have quality in their squad. Now, it’s time for the Reds to get at United and show that they have the mettle for this relegation battle.

Broadcast details

Today’s game is live on Sky Sports. The cameras will roll into Nottingham to see if the Reds can cause an upset.

As ever, the game will also be broadcast live on BBC Radio Nottingham.
