Nottingham Forest stars Orel Mangala and Morgan Gibbs-White have jumped to the defence of Brennan Johnson.

The 21-year-old endured a bit of a rotten night as the Reds defeated Brighton 3-1 at the City Ground.

Forest won for the first time in 12 matches but it quite simply wasn’t a night where Johnson played a starring role.

The academy graduate missed a penalty with the score at 0-0. Later on in the first half, he fired wide after going through one on one.

To compound his miserable evening, he got in the way of Neco Williams in the second half, with his Wales teammate being stretchered off.

Things can’t come off for Johnson all of the time. He’s still the top goalscorer and the 10-goal player will come again.

Ultimately, Forest won the match last night. His teammates bailed him out, much like he has done for them all season.

Forest claimed a big three points and that’s all that matters. A Pascal Gross own goal, Danilo and Gibbs-White were the scorers on the night.

Johnson was withdrawn late in the piece and he will hope to bounce back at Brentford on Saturday.

It’s nice to see that Forest’s stars have the backing of Johnson. After all, he’s been the main talisman during the current campaign.

The 21-year-old is set for a really bright future in the game and he’s one of Forest’s main hopes for Premier League survival.

After the game last night, Johnson posted on Instagram and received messages of support from Mangala and Gibbs-White.

Mangala posted: “Got your back always.

Gibbs-White was similarly supportive, writing: “We got you, bro.”

Johnson fetched up 100 appearances for the Reds last night and he will hope to make many more for the team he supports.
