Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper heaped praise on Taiwo Awoniyi after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

The player has now scored four goals in two games for the Reds and they’re edging closer to Premier League safety.

Awoniyi missed three months of action after sustaining a groin injury in January but he’s returned with aplomb.

The 25-year-old signed for Forest in the summer, costing the club £17.5 million from Union Berlin.

Last season, he found the net 15 times in the Bundesliga and but for his injury this season he might have done similar in the Premier League.

Cooper has been impressed with his talisman and he lauded his impact after Saturday’s decent point at Stamford Bridge.

He told BBC Sport: “He scored with his head as well which we were very pleased with. We talked about it and there was a chance at Brentford that we thought he could have done better with.

“The first one showed good bravery. You always want your striker to score goals and we have goals in the team so really pleased for him.

“Don’t forget he missed large parts of the second half of the season being injured. It shows his commitment to return to the team, play well and now scored a few goals.”

It’s been a remarkable week for Awoniyi who has been in the goals once again for the Reds.

Awoniyi has left his lethal instinct late into the season but in fairness, he’s had some rotten luck with injuries.

Forest are a much better outfit with Awoniyi playing and he has the ability to torment Arsenal on Saturday too.

The Reds are within touching distance of safety and a win against Arsenal should seal the deal.

With Awoniyi in the team, anything is possible and the City Ground will be rocking for one last time during the 2022/23 campaign.
