Sue Smith has just explained to Sky Sports News that Nottingham Forest deserve praise for sticking with Steve Cooper.

The Reds were the topic of discussion on this morning’s The Football Show following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored the game’s only goal in the 19th minute and the City Ground celebrated in style after the game.

Forest have defied the odds by remaining in the top flight this season. They’ve been mocked, ridiculed and belittled all season by outsiders.

The Reds are having the last laugh, however. They can now sit back to watch Leicester, Everton and Leeds battle to avoid joining Southampton in the Championship.

Smith heaped praise on Forest and she now believes that the decision to keep Cooper looks inspired.

Smith told Sky Sports News: “They deserve so much praise for sticking by Steve Cooper. The fans still backed him and still sang his name. They realised the challenge he faced with all the new signings and they’ve reaped the rewards.

Forest and West Ham are the only two teams in the bottom half of the table that haven’t sacked their manager this season.

Cooper is worshipped on Trentside and his stock has now risen higher on the back of this latest victory.

The pundit is spot on and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has done well not to wield the axe.

Forest over the years have been known for chopping and changing managers but times look to be changing.

Marinakis hasn’t got every decision at Forest right but he’s hit the jackpot by choosing to stick with Cooper.

The Reds have defied the odds by staying in the Premier League and next season the hope will be that the team can kick on again.

Forest have offered hope to every team in the Premier League that by placing faith in a manager, the rewards can be evident.

The Reds have achieved what seemed like Mission Impossible at one stage and for that, Cooper does deserve credit.
