BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher thinks Dean Henderson wants to sign for Nottingham Forest. The Manchester United goalkeeper will return to Old Trafford at the end of his loan spell.

The 26-year-old made 20 appearances for the Reds during 2022/23. He kept six clean sheets but picked up a serious thigh injury in January against Leicester which curtailed his campaign.

Henderson will now be a target for the Reds this summer. The possibility became a bit of a reality this weekend after Forest defeated Arsenal 1-0 to ensure they remain in the Premier League next season.

On Saturday as the game reached injury time, Henderson was looking extremely nervous in the stands. He was kicking every ball with the other injured players from The Peter Taylor Stand and he clearly cares about Forest.

Now, Fletcher believes that Henderson would jump at the chance to sign for Forest. He made the claim on the latest episode of the Garibaldi Red podcast.

The BT commentator said: “He was in the parlour at 2am on the same crutches! He decided to stay for the night with his teammates.

“He’d very much like to be a Forest player next season. If he can have his wish next season that’s what he’d like to do.”

Henderson is rated very highly. When he was at Sheffield United, Sander Berge called him ‘insane’ following a fine run of form at Bramall Lane.

This would be a wonderful signing for the Reds to make. They will definitely need a goalkeeper and Henderson is at the perfect age for a stopper.

The Reds added Keylor Navas when the player got injured and he did a great job. Ultimately, however, he’s 36-years-old and it’s highly unlikely that he’d sign for the club permanently.

It’s thought that United are keen to recoup £30 million for Henderson. That wouldn’t be overly excessive and he should prove to be value for money at that particular price.

Forest must go for quality over quantity this summer. With the Reds now guaranteed Premier League football they can start to put some plans into place.

Henderson should be part of those plans. The goalkeeper has a desire to play for England again and playing regularly for Forest could help him to do exactly that.
