It’s been claimed that Inter could scupper Nottingham Forest in their plans to sign Carlos Augusto during the transfer window. The Reds were linked with the player yesterday but now the Champions League finalists are on the scene.

According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are getting contingency plans in place should Renan Lodi not return. Forest would love to re-sign the Brazilian permanently but a move to sign him once again seems somewhat complicated.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Forest’s interest. However, he’s claimed that he’s not a concrete target at the City Ground, whilst Inter do view him as a primary option to fill their left-back void.

His recent form has prompted clubs to show an interest. During the 2022/23 campaign, he scored six goals and registered five assists as Monza finished in a decent 11th place.

Augusto has been with the Italian outfit since 2020. He checked in from Corinthians and has grown as a player since starting on his European adventure.

Forest will almost certainly need to sign a left-back this summer. Harry Toffolo was the backup to Lodi last season, with Omar Richards set to return for pre-season training.

Cooper will go in search of an attacking full-back if he can’t get Lodi again. Augusto has largely played as a wing-back for Monza and he looks to fit that criteria nicely.

This deal wouldn’t be a particularly expensive one. It’s claimed that Monza will demand around £8 million should they decide to sell him during the transfer window, with much depending on whether or not he will sign a new deal.

As a result, it’s no surprise to see Inter now in the mix to sign him. Furthermore, it’s perhaps more telling that they actually view him as a concrete option.

The Serie A giants face Manchester City in the Champions League final this weekend. With that in mind, they’re hardly going to need any help convincing players to sign for them.

Monza boss Raffaele Palladino is a huge fan of Augusto. He called him ‘extraordinary’ back in April and it appears that he’s set for a bright future.

Forest would dearly love to add Augusto to their ranks if they can’t get Lodi. However, this latest update seemingly implies that they’re fighting a losing battle.
