The transfer involving Dean Henderson moving from Manchester United to Nottingham Forest could be held up. David de Gea is now expected to leave Old Trafford and the Red Devils want replacements lined up first.

According to Football Insider, there is a slight stumbling block right now. United won’t sanction the player’s departure until they have new goalkeepers through the door and that could slow down the process.

Forest hope to do their business early this summer. During the window at this stage of 2022, the Reds had to wait until late in the window to get their business sorted which cost them dearly in the opening exchanges of the campaign.

Henderson made 20 appearances for Forest last season. He kept six clean sheets and proved to be sorely missed when he picked up a season-ending thigh injury against Leicester in January.

Forest have named the goalkeeper as their number one target for that position. Other names have been prepped as contingency options, with Ugurcan Cakir thought to be high on their list.

Henderson is the one that Forest want, however. De Gea could now walk away from United, with the player unable to reach an agreement to lower his £375,000-a-week wage demands.

This doesn’t feel like anything to worry about too much. All it means is that Forest will have to wait a little bit longer to get their number one goalkeeping target to sign for the club.

Henderson is worth the wait too. He’s been called ‘insane’ by Sander Berge during his career and he was quality for Forest last season after checking in on a season-long loan.

The 25-year-old is unlikely to earn a reprieve at Old Trafford. He was very critical of the way in which United handled his playing time during 2021/22; something that won’t have gone down well.

Forest would dearly love to get their main business done early this summer. In the case of Henderson however, they may have to wait just a little while longer until United get a De Gea replacement sorted.
