Nottingham Forest have now submitted a formal bid to sign Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos before the transfer window ends. The Reds are keen to sign another stopper as they look for competition for Matt Turner.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Greece goalkeeper is now under consideration by Forest as they look to step up their recruitment drive. The offer is just under £8 million and Benfica are open to selling the player.

The 29-year-old signed for Benfica in 2018 from Panathinaikos. He’s become a regular in the team at Benfica, making 225 appearances and keeping 94 clean sheets for the club.

Vlachodimos has been linked with Manchester United this summer. He was eyed as a possible number two to Andre Onana but they’ve now signed Altay Bayindir who was previously linked with a move to Forest.

The Reds need to ensure they get themselves well-stocked between the posts. Wayne Hennessey is still at the club but Ethan Horvath has been the understudy to Turner in the opening three games of the campaign.

Vlachodimos has played twice so far during 2023/24. He wasn’t even in the squad for the club’s last two games and it does appear as though he’s going to be leaving before the transfer deadline.

The Reds have to get themselves another goalkeeper sorted before the deadline. It would be risky to go with Horvath as the understudy for the entire campaign and they’d be placing a lot of pressure on Turner to stay fit.

Vlachodimos would be a quality addition at just under £8 million. He’s an experienced goalkeeper yet at 29, he’s still got plenty of strong years ahead of him and it’s telling that United were keen to sign him this summer.

The Reds would have loved to have signed Dean Henderson after his successful loan spell last season. However, it now looks as though the player is going to sign for Crystal Palace instead before Friday’s deadline.

Rumour rating: 8/10 – There is a lot to love about this one. Vlachodimos has played in the Champions League and Europa League and he looks a nice fit for the Forest ranks.

The Reds need to ensure they get their goalkeeping ranks well-stocked. As a result, they will hope that they can get a deal for the 33-time Greece international.
