Former Nottingham Forest loanee Djed Spence is set to join Championship side Leeds United on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan at the City Ground, where he made 39 appearances scoring twice, going on to be included in the PFA Championship Team of the Season.

Steve Cooper’s side tried to sign the wing-back on a permanent basis last summer, however, Spence decided to join Tottenham for £15 million, where he has only made four appearances within the last 12 months.

Last season, he spent time on loan at Rennes in France, but he’s now set for another loan move to join Daniel Farke’s side until the end of the season.

A great signing for Leeds United

Spence excelled at Forest during his last stint in England’s second tier, making himself a real fan favourite at the City Ground.

The ‘unbelievable‘ wing-back has been linked with a return to the club this window, but other options have been explored such as the signing of World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel from Sevilla.

It is crucial that the former Middlesbrough man gets regular game time at Elland Road to allow the 23-year-old to get back on track after what has been a disappointing 12-month period for the defender.

He will give Farke’s side needed pace at the back, whilst providing an option in attacking areas with his pace and dribbling abilities.

Although he may not be returning to Forest, it is great to see the former Red getting an opportunity elsewhere to prove his ability and carry on the upward trajectory he was on during his time under Cooper at the City Ground.
