Wayne Rooney has tried to sign Andre Ayew following his departure from Nottingham Forest. The 33-year-old left the City Ground in the summer at the end of his short-term deal.
The Ghana captain is now a free agent. Rooney is looking to add some firepower to his squad and is considering an offer to sign the well-travelled Ayew.
However, he’s now confessed that it does look unlikely that he will bring anyone before the deadline. Ayew had come under consideration as he still looks for a club.
The player didn’t really hit the ground running at Forest. He failed to score for the club during the second half of the campaign and missed a late penalty in defeat against Tottenham.
Ayew knew Steve Cooper from his time at Swansea City. In the Championship he was a standout performer but he simply failed to get firing in the Premier League.

Rooney wanted to sign failed Forest striker Ayew
It’s claimed by The Washington Post that Rooney engaged in talks with Ayew over a move to D.C. United. However, an issue with the club’s finances suggests they won’t now move.
Ayew would perhaps still be capable of doing a job for a club that plays in an inferior league to the Premier League. He does, after all, have a pedigree of scoring goals throughout his career.
The Reds are well off with Ayew. He was never going to get a chance to earn another contract at the football club and Forest have now strengthened in that area.
Ayew perhaps still has something to offer someone out there. Given that he’s coming to the end of his career, however, it will perhaps have to be in a country that can pay him handsomely on one final contract.
