Alan Shearer has lauded Joe Worrall for his heroics as Nottingham Forest stunned the Premier League by beating Chelsea. The win at Stamford Bridge was claimed thanks to a first Reds goal for Anthony Elanga.

The Match of the Day pundit has named Joe Worrall in his Premier League Team of the Week. It means that Worrall has completed a double this weekend after being named in the BBC Sport Team of the Week too.

It’s been a turbulent week for the Forest captain. Last week the sad news was announced that his uncle, Sergeant Graham Saville was fatally injured in the line of duty.

Worrall has a close family and naturally, this will have hit him hard. Still, the captain showed his leadership qualities by putting the club first and leading Forest to a famous victory.

Shearer was very impressed with Worrall. He told the Premier League website: “Magnificent at the club in really tough circumstances.”

This was Worrall’s defining moment in a Forest shirt. After such an emotional week, he’d have been forgiven for sitting this game out. That’s not in Worrall’s make-up though and instead, he used his heartache as inspiration to great impact.

The 26-year-old was awesome against Chelsea. He won everything that was thrown at him and produced a performance that spoke volumes about him as a Forest player and as a person.

There is more to come from Worrall. He’s started this season exceptionally well and he’s now starting to show the sort of form that had Premier League clubs vying to sign him when Forest were in the Championship.

Steve Cooper trusts Worrall as his captain. He’s got the backing of the fan base and hopefully, this performance is one that can be on show consistently during the current campaign.
