Johnson was allowed to leave when Tottenham agreed a £47.5 million deal. The Reds held out all summer and ultimately got the valuation they felt he was worth.

The 22-year-old left the club amicably. He was instrumental with 19 goals as the club won promotion and last season, he helped keep the team in the Premier League.

Caulker is rather intrigued that Forest have let him go. As a player who turned out for Tottenham during his career, he is pleased to see him arrive in North London.

The one-cap England wonder told Sky Sports News: “He’s a really exciting young talent. I’m quite surprised Nottingham Forest have let him go but it’s obviously a number they felt they could get a replacement in.

“I like the fact Spurs have gone British. They have Maddison in who has started the season really well and I think they are a club that is one to watch this year.”

Caulker can’t believe Forest have sold Johnson

It might be easy to seem surprised from the outside looking in but Forest made the right call. Steve Cooper is now blessed with a wonderful squad for the season ahead.

Selling Johnson allowed the Reds to act. Callum Hudson-Odoi came in as someone who can play on the right, whilst the funds were used to sign Ibrahim Sangare from PSV.

Johnson goes with Forest’s best wishes. He proved a very good player for the Reds and it will now be fascinating to see how he goes at Tottenham.

Forest can now push on with a squad that Cooper has craved for a long time.
